Matte lipsticks are having a bit of a moment recently. MAC have recently brought out their Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour lipsticks and Kylie’s Matte Lip Kits are sold out everywhere. However, for those of you who don’t want to spend crazy amounts on shipping or aren’t totally sold on the whole liquid lipstick thing, I’ve found the perfect alternative. I adore pinky/brown colours (see my recent blog post on my favourite pinks) and this MAC lipstick in Twig is the most gorgeous brown pinky matte. Although it says that it has a satin finish, in reality it dries with a beautiful matte finish. I paired this lip colour with an easy deep golden smokey eye, I’ve been wearing this look non-stop this month!
To get a really flawless base I used Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation all over my face and buffed it in well. As per I then used Revlon Colourstay Concealor under my eyes. For bronzer I used Soap & Glory Solar Powder, and used this on my temples, then contoured lightly to bring out my cheekbones. This look is super soft and smokey, so I used a little bit more than usual to really warm up my face.
I filled my eyebrows in with a Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Cocoa. I wanted them to be full, soft and natural and I find that the easiest way to do this is to start off lightly and gradually build up.
Firstly I applied Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original all over my eyelids. I find that by using this first not only does your eyeshadow last all day, but prevents a fair bit of eyeshadow falldown. For my eyeshadow, I applied Smog from the original Naked Palette all over my lids, really packing it on to get a super intense colour. Smog is such a perfect gold for me, it’s deep and rich which really works with my hair and my pale complexion. The key to this look is to blend and make sure everything is super smokey and soft-focused. Blend and add more colour until you’ve reached your desired level of smokiness. I mixed Smog and Cocoa (the same shade I used for my eyebrows) and ran this under my eyes, making sure that it was blended to really smoke it out. I lightly applied Kiko Intense Colour Long Lasting Eyeliner in 03 on my upper lid, followed by plenty of Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara to really add some drama to my lashes.
I applied Twig straight onto my lips from the bullet and bypassed any lipliner. As this look is quite soft, especially with all the smokiness going on with the eyes, I felt like using lipliner would look a little harsh. Plus, I never need to use one with this lipstick as it’s so pigmented and dries so beautifully matte.
